Loop Heat Pipes

This section contains: outward appearance of HP’s special construction – Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) and general information on LHP operation.

General information
Loop Heat Pipes may be applied to cooling of the objects which move with acceleration (more than 9.8m/s²) in particular for space on-board equipment cooling.
Loop Heat Pipes may be used if such objects change their orientation to the gravitational forces, especially, when it is necessary to transfer heat against the gravitational forces and acceleration.
Loop Heat Pipes make possible to transfer large heat flow (1000W and more) over a long distance (6m and more) and in the single direction.
Loop Heat Pipe’s body is made of aluminum alloy.
Capillary pump is made of sintered aluminum oxide powder ceramics.

Advantages:
- low heat conductivity of the capillary pump
- low cost
- small mass

Conditional signs:
1 - evaporator;
2 - capillary pump;
3 - condenser;
4 -compensation cavity;
5 - steam pipe;
6 - fluid pipe.
